Quality education begins with parents. Parental involvement and strong communication is the foundation for successful children. The PS7 community is dynamic, involving teachers, administrators, community, and families. These are the key elements to a vital learning environment.
PS7 provides a holistic learning environment. There is a continuum of instruction that lasts beyond the limits of a traditional school day. Learning extends beyond the walls of PS7 and allows the child to expand their mind and learn through everyday experiences while removing boundaries and creating opportunities. Research states that
- When parents are involved students tend to achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic/racial background, or parents’ education level.
- The more extensive the parental involvement, the higher the student achievement.
- When parent are involved in students’ education, those students generally have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and more consistently completed homework.
- Students with involved parents in their education have higher graduation rates and greater enrollment rates in postsecondary education.
- In programs designed to involve parents in full partnerships, student achievement for disadvantaged children not only improves, but can also reach levels that are standard for middle class children.
- Children who are furthest behind are most likely to make the greatest gains.
- If parents do not participate in school events, develop a working relationship with their children’s educators, or keep up with what is happening in their children’s school, their children are more likely to fall behind in academic performance.
This is the basis of the mission at PS7 to partner with parents for quality education and learning process.
Upon enrollment, PS7 parents sign a contract committing to provide 40 hours of volunteer service yearly. Our Parent Liaison coordinates parent communication, activities and clubs including the following:
