Meg Peter

I am the PS7 Visual Arts teacher. It’s pretty incredible to watch all of our students grow in art and as individuals. I love watching my students’ eyes light up when they learn art. Before PS7, I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA. I attended the University of San Diego where I developed a passion for art. Upon graduation, I joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, where I was a full-time teaching assistant at PS7. I assisted daily in the classrooms of Erica Greco and Emily Freathy. After my year of service, I was asked to start an art program at PS7. I am currently building the art program and teaching all grade levels at PS7.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PS7 EXPERIENCE?

I am constantly challenged and inspired by the PS7 community to “do whatever it takes” to ensure success in providing a high-quality education for every student. I find it incredible, positive, and powerful to be a part of a team that refuses to let a skin color or zip code stand in the way of a person’s success. I am inspired and driven by our students’ deep thirst for knowledge.

WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL GOALS FOR YOUR STUDENTS?

Since I will be teaching each student every year of their career at PS7, it is important for me to build a strong relationship that communicates trust and care. I want my students to be confident artists and visual communicators. I want them to be able to find a personal connection with art and I want that experience to help drive their curiosity in all subjects of learning. I want to create leadership opportunities for my students in art. I want my students to enjoy the process of making art and celebrating their accomplishments. I want all PS7 students to grow in positive character and self-confidence.

HOW DO YOU LIKE SPENDING YOUR FREE TIME WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

Besides planning exciting and educational art lessons, I enjoy swimming, traveling, reading books, drawing, painting, photography, writing, visiting family, and jumping on trampolines.
