My name is Katee Taylor and I am a fourth grade teacher at PS7. This is my very first year at PS7 and I am so excited to be a part of the PS7 family. I grew up in Portland, Oregon. After college, my husband and I moved around a lot for his job. We eventually landed in Roseville and we couldn’t be happier. Once we settled in, I decided to go back to school and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I attended University of Oregon from 2002-2006. I graduated with a degree in Journalism, with a focus in Electronic Media and a minor in Communication Studies. I had a great time in college and loved the Journalism program, however after I graduated I quickly discovered that in order to pursue electronic media (television production) I would either have to work in news or moved to L.A. Neither of which I wanted to do. Once in Roseville, I decided it would be the perfect time to go back to school to become a teacher. I attended the University of Phoenix and graduated with my Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PS7 EXPERIENCE?
I enjoy the staff and the students very much! Everyone here has been so welcoming and willing to offer any sort of help or advice I need. The students have been through a lot of changes this school year and have been very flexible with mid-year teacher change. I also really love the culture of the school, which encourages every child to attend a 4-year university regardless of home life and finances. I believe all of this students have the ability to achieve this goal and it brings me great pride to know that I am a part of them achieving it.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL GOALS FOR YOUR STUDENTS?
My biggest goal for them is to graduate from a 4-year university. I also want them to grow up to be successful members of society. In addition to a school education, I also try to teach my students life skills such as cooperation and respect. All of these skills will allow my students to go far in life.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?
“Who dares to teach must never cease to learn.”
~ John Cotton Dana
“A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank…but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child.”
~ Forest Witchcraft
HOW DO YOU LIKE SPENDING YOUR FREE TIME WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
My husband and I got married last July and we both work long hours so I love to spend as much of my free time with him. I also really enjoy working out with my workout buddy, Jen. On the weekends, I spend time with friends and enjoy watching and playing sports. In the summer, I play on my husband’s office softball team and in the fall you can always spot me at Buffalo Wild Wings cheering on my Oregon Ducks.
